Our 50th Season of racing has come to a close… and what a finish it was! We capped off 2024 racing on the world famous Glen Helen Raceway National track with perfect weather and track conditions. The track layout was quite a bit different than what we had seen in awhile thanks to the recent World Vet race. This design was met with huge positivity around the pits.
Before we get into the rest, we want to thank all of our members, scorekeepers, track staff, sponsors, and all the folks who support us and keep this club going year after year. THANK YOU!
So how did the 2024 overall podium shake out?! Scott Sligar (#151G) had a comfortable points lead for the top overall coming into this race, but the rest of the podium was far from settled. The second, third, and fourth place riders were only separated by 1 point each. Eric Gooselaw (#34G), Keith Brockmann (#55G), and Matt Tallman (#45G) all had their work cut out for them in hopes of securing a spot and being part of the celebrations at the end of the day.
Each rider fought hard in their respective motos, with Brockmann possibly facing the biggest challenge with a bad a start in moto 1, then a REALLY bad start as he stalled off the gate in moto 2. Brockmann managed a 2nd overall finish on the day in the 52 Expert class. Tallman did what he did best, and that was finish ahead of his competition in 45 Novice class, securing first overall. Gooselaw was able to finish the day 2nd overall in 58 Intermediate.
After some on-the-fly calculations we came up with a TIE for all 3 riders, with 598 points each on the season! Luckily, we had already calculated what was needed for a tie breaker prior to the race in case this scenario occurred. With 14 moto wins, Matt Tallman took second place for the 2024 season. With 10 moto wins, Keith Brockmann rounded out the podium. Eric Gooselaw came up just short of the top 3, which is still an amazing finish on his IRON MAN season.
(We calculated the points once again after the race and found that Gooselaw finished just 1 point off of Tallman and Brockmann, so close!)
ALL of these riders fought hard all year, traveled far, raced injured, and showed their grit when it counted. At the end of the day, with 622 points and over 30 moto wins, Scott Sligar is your 2024 OTHG South Chapter Champion!
Congratulations to all three gentlemen on an amazing season! Each of them will no doubt be collecting various awards at our Year End Banquet taking place on January 18, 2025 at Pechanga Casino.
